The director of USDA wildlife services in Michigan manages cormorant control measures in the state, measures which include both harassment and killing of the birds. Many anglers and biologists in the state suspect cormorants are negatively affecting fish populations throughout the Great Lakes basin.

Fishing industry should unite at public meetings PDF

Starting next week, the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation will be hosting a series of five public meetings around Lake Ontario to solicit public comment on a draft “Sportfishing Restoration and Spending Plan.” The public meeting for Region 9 will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Lewiston-Porter High School.

Fred Trost, popular host of Michigan outdoors TV show, dies at 61 PDF
Associated Press   

 Fred Trost, who hosted the popular "Michigan Outdoors" hunting and fishing television show, has died. He was 61.  Trost died Wednesday of a rare lung condition after spending several weeks in the hospital, his son, Zachary Trost of East Lansing, told The Associated Press on Thursday.

New yellow perch rules are likely this fall PDF

Fisheries biologists aren’t sure what caused the yellow perch populations to crash in Green Bay and Lake Michigan, but it appears the fish are on the rebound.Bill Horns, Great Lakes fisheries specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, estimates that public hearings on increasing the harvest will be held in May.
