Cormorant control nixed in Senate budget PDF

The budget bill passed by the State Senate to fix the current fiscal year budget shortfall included a $839,400 cut to the Department of Natural Resources, included in which was $150,000 for cormorant control measures at the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant and at Beaver Island.

Eighty-two Cabela’s MWC teams faced tournament conditions on the Detroit River and Lake Erie that were the absolute antithesis of what many experienced just a few weeks earlier in Spring Valley, Illinois. Picture perfect weather and a hot bite made for a happy field of competitors. Nearly 90% of the field weighed in the allowable ten-fish limit over two days.

Plan aims to slow perch stock decline PDF

Ohio fish managers formally have proposed a reduction from 30 to 25 a day in the sport fishing creel limit for yellow perch in western Lake Erie.

The plan recently was presented to the rules-making Ohio Wildlife Council, which will decide on the rule change on April 2.

Before then the public will have opportunities to comment and testify, respectively, at district wildlife open houses on March 2 and a statewide hearing in Columbus on March 6.

Lake Superior chinook program not productive PDF

The return on the chinook salmon program in Lake Superior is so poor that the Department of Natural Resources might end stocking altogether. Members of the Saxon Harbor Boating Club met with DNR fisheries biologists Steve Schram and Mike Seider Wednesday night and salmon stocking was discussed.
