I am finding two different "Walleye Board"s. The small fin at the back of the board is different. One is a half circle and angles down at the rear, and one is a triangle that angles up at the rear. They both have the same part number. I have a couple with the circle angled down. My thought is the triangle angled up would not dive down and roll as much. Does anyone have an explanation for the difference?

Brad

I talked to the good folks over at Church Tackle Co today. The triangle shaped fin, angled up at the rear, is a change they made due to the flag system that the walleye guys use, make the boards nose heavy.

I wonder if there is any difference in how they run pulling core. The 4 I have all have the round fin and I'm planning to add another pair this off season. Can anyone with both types in their collection comment on any precieved difference in how they run in the real world?

Littledandy,

I run both styles of these boards. They track slightly different. If I remember right I beleive the older orange boards track a little better that the newer yellow ones. I have pulled up to 15 colors of lead on each style without issue. Also I don't put the flags on yellow one up because they are readily visiable without them. This year I'll be removing them.

Hope this helps

Chris,

We are talking about a change on the Church boards. Both styles are orange, and look identical, except for the small fin at the rear of the board. They are now all being made with the triangular fin angled up at the rear, but you will still find the older models on the shelves until they're gone. I have to believe the new ones won't dive and roll as much when they get stuffed.

Thanks guys. I was just curious about any noticeable differences in the way they track. We don't fish inline boards much as 99% of our fishing is big boards. The few times we have run them we didn't have any problems with them rolling or diving. We were using them with 2, 5 and 10 colors of lead and a 300' 45# copper. I want the option of running another pair of core/copper rods next season when in 'stealth mode', hence my curiosity about the design change. I'm guessing any difference in tracking wouldn't be noticeable.

When I fish them in a tight chop, they can stuff themselves, (no matter where the weight is set). When that happens they dive and roll under to the inside. I'm afraid it will barrel roll and tangle, or break off. The new fin should bring the front back to the surface, rather than send it deep. They should track the same.

Guys, they where out most of last year and run just fine....actually i never noticed a difference until a charter customer asked why one was round and the other a triangle! So, to answer the question? I never knew they changed the fin until someone pointed it out to me!
