Ok, seeing that the season (for us East siders) is nearly over. How many of you tried using copper this year, and if so, what are your thoughts/experiences with it.

Puckstop,

I tried a copper rig at the end of the season this year, last three trips. The first trip had four hits on it, out of eight total that day, three of them while I was setting it out. Only landed one of the fish besause I didn't get a good hook sets on the three that hit while setting. Second trip had three hits landed two, again two hit while setting. Third trip caught caught three fish out of six boated on the copper. In all cases I had nine rods out and only one of them was copper. Not bad.

It feels like lead core in that it is a very heavy line but it seems to me to have alot more sensitivy. As an example, the fish that I landed on the first trip was a 1-2 pound jack. The drag never made a sound even though I had it set very light, but when I moved the rod to clear the back to land another fish I felt the fish on the end of the line. If that would have been core I would have drug that fish around for a couple of hours killing at least a portion of my spread.

All that being said, the jury is still out on copper for me, but it has certianly earned a full test next year. I did pick up another reel to accomidate another rig next year. We will see.

Not too many copper opportunities for me this season as my other rigs were producing producing and I didn't have very many days that I needed to fish the copper's depth.

It's additionally tough to give copper a fair shake for me as I fish solo much of the time (3 rod limit).
