i've been using copper with pretty good results. am i right on assuming 5-6 ft per 10 yds? how deep will it sink when i get into the braided backer, ie 200' of backer and so on?
thanks

leadcore is 4-5' per 10 yds. 45# copper actually runs about twice that. so around 8-9 feet per 10yds. ofcourse trolling speed and current are big factors but on avg that is what you will see.

thanks,

i was just wondering if the amount of backing let out
affected the depth of sink i'm using 200' of 20lb leader, 30lb copper braid and 300' of braid backer

200' of leader? I think most run 20-50' leaders. My only copper rig right now has around 30' leader. It catches fish.

yea i woould definately shorten up that mono leader, with it being that long it will affect the depth (longer your leader the shallower your lure will actually run) but more importantly with such a long leader it actually takes away from the action that copper or core give a bait. copper and leadcore fall and rise in the water column because of their weight. which gives your bait a unique action under the water. with a long leader the lure won't see near as much as that action. i'd go witha 50' maximum leader. 30' is good like little dandy has. i've caught fish with as little as 2-3' of leader (to lazy to retie). i usually keep mine around 20-30'. now with the braid as backer. i'm not sure if you were meaning this but if you let say 100' of your backing out so all your leader and copper and 100' of backing then yes it will go a little deeper. i'm not sure that any1 has a real good gauge on how much deeper it will get when backing starts getting let out, maybe some1 can chime in. good luck.

I agree start with 30' of backing and I like to see 300 yrds of backing. by the time you have your extra 100 of backing, 100 to the board it doesn't leave any room for a fish to run before you break off an expensive set up.
