Ok Educated anglers sorry it's late but, here is a little bit about my recent trip with my son Corey to Little bay de Noc. The bay in question is to be found directly off the northern end of Green Bay in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
It is one of THE premier walleye fisheries in the world in my humble opinion.
We caught a few Smallmouth bass and a few northern pike but, the walleye fishing was what we went for.
The best bait we had was a purple yozuri crystal minnow deep diver.
We did well with that lure on mono lines fished 50 ft behind the planer board. It also worked well on a 2 color leadcore line.
We changed lines depending on the depth the fish were holding in.
On center reef we were using the mono fishing in 12-16 ft of water.
In another spot the size of a baseball diamond infield, (sorry can't divulge the spot) we used the leadcore just skimming the top of a small hump.
The used several other baits as well including, Smithwick suspending super rogues, and Reef runner ripsticks. They all worked in certain colors.
As long as you consulted the "Precision trolling" book and made sure you picked up the occasional zebra mussel from the bottom.
This is no lazy mans fishing, you MUST check lines often or you will be fishing dead fouled baits.
The last night was our absolute best and I nearly played hookey and fished another night, my son and I caught 12 fish in an hour and a half.
With his personal best 28 and 1/2 inch specimen coming then, we also (I) got a 28 and we let go one under sized and one just legal fish knowing we'd get another 20ish.
