Would the Okuma 45 Convector be a good reel for running leadcore line. Is $53.86 a fair price to pay for them?

Yes the COnvector is a fine reel for running most leadcore lengths, I know the guys running 20 colors use the 55 for the increased capacity but I'd have to say that the 45 is fine for 10 to 15 colors depending on the backing.

I haven't purchased any but that sounds like a good price.

I'd say that would be a fine reel for leadcore. In that price range is the Penn 309 which has the capacity but the excruciatingly slow retrieval rate of the 309 would send me in the direction of the Okuma 45.

I use 2 of the convector 45's for core. 6 and 8 colors with oodles of 20# mono backer. I had full cores on them at one time, but found I got a tad nervous when they were way out on boards and an angry king wanted to head for the state line. I have the original convectors and the newer series with the larger gear box are even better. I think I paid about 80 for mine, so I would say 55 is a great price.

I run the 45's for full cores and have had good succses with the. Not sure if the 45's would handle much more than a full core though. Guess it would depend on how much backing you wanted to use...

I have Penn 330's for full cores, but if I were doing it over again I'd go with Okuma 55's. Reason being is you can use mono for backing instead of expensive superlines and with a spool that large you really get a lot of line per crank. I used Red Rider's CV-55 setup last year and was very impressed with it compared to my 330's.

I highly doubt a 45 would hold much more than a full core and you will need superline backing just to do that.
