Hey guys, I am looking for a new autopilot. I have a 200 hp merc on the boat as well as a 15 hp kicker motor. I really would like to get an autopilot for the boat, maybee on the kicker motor, you know for gas purposes. Anybody use an auto on a kicker or know anybody who does? an if so, what kind, and what are the pros and cons. Any help would be great, thanks

i do know it can be done. I fished with "Fishin Mission" out of Holland. He has a 23' Sylvan cuddy aluminum boat with an I/O main power and an outboard kicker that has autopilot on it. He also had a remote control around his neck to control it. It was a very slick set up.
I will check to see if I can find out the names of his units.

Probably a TR-1 gold.

I've had my eye on one for a while, but they aren't cheap.

You are right about the TR-1's They are around $2399.00 for the four strokes and alittle less for the 2 strokes? This is a retail price from them.

This may come as being a question for our people in the know on this site but why couldn't a person have a standard auto pilot on the main engine and with steering link too the kicker achieve the same thing except for the remote control part of it? Just thinking out loud.

I do know that the TR-1 also has speed control for the auxiliary motor setups. I sell Trollmasters Speed Control units but these are speed only no steering.

I love the way the tr1GOLD works

they are a bit pricey but in my openion worth it, superb performance in slow speed rough and windy conditions this is where you will notice a difference

they steer the kicker motor and controle the throttle you will still have to start it and shift it into gear

I have installed quite a few and have had few problems and manny happy customers using them
Not easy to install expect to spend some time installing one

I am in the process of installing the TR-1 Gladiator Autopilot on my I/O I have a 20 honda kicker linked with a EZ-Steer. Have talked to others with this set up and other than the price everyone swears by them. The Galdiator is more than the Gold but I will be able to run to our spots with it and then troll with it as well. We have a few more weeks till ice out here so wont get to test it out till May.
