i was wondering how hard it is to mount a kicker motor and swing away bracket on a 1998 wellcraft coastal with a 200 hp merc o.b. my buddy is considering purchasing this boat and i would be sourced with adding this assembly. how do you decide if you need a long or short shaft? is there a certain distance the kicker prop needs to be under the boat? any info would be greatly appreciated and will affect his decision.

thank you in advance

doug

The prop of a kicker motor does not have to be completely under the boat
Usually we set them up so prop shaft is parallel with bottom with bracket lowered
if you can send us some pictures we will see if we can help

Here is the next hurdle.

The boat currently has no kicker motor, but has auto pilot. If I want to use the kicker motor in lieu of the main motor, what needs to be done so I can still use the auto pilot?

Thanks,

Peaser

post some pictures
in some cases if main motor has power steering auto pilot with a tie bar will not work unless the main motor is running
the best auto pilot for a kicker is one thats desighned for a kicker alone
like a tr1
there are a bunch of different ways to do the same thing best to line up all your options take a close look at all the pro and cons of each set up and decide from there
