First post fished 3 to 7 yesterday afternoon. Two anglers 9 eyes, 20 fow north of dumping ground , michigan waters.3 on spoons, switched to blades for last hour and half 6 more and missed couple . 2.0 to 2.2 on the spoons 1.0 to 1.2 on blades and crawlers. Alot of fish flys in the water.

My buddy Steve took his family out yesterday morning within a couple miles of Sputnik. They pulled 6 walleyes for the day, but Steve was letting the kids reel in the fish.
They were drifting, and most of the hookups came on a gold/chart harness combo 15-20' down.
Seems those fish are hanging in the same depth as they were when we left 'em on Sunday.

I would run east out of Bolles to the OH/MI line and check there first...24-25fow...if nothing, head towards the McD's buoy and troll towards Sputnik. We caught 40 fish on the line between Friday and Saturday morning.
Most of the fish we caught near the OH/MI line were 12-18' down. Spoons behind discs (Green Slick, Pink Skittles, Pink Panties) back 60-70' worked good, along with the Lite Bite Slide Divers set on 3 back 65' w/ Ladybug spoons. Two colors of leadcore w/ a 1/4 oz. Hot n Tot in Green Bay Packer (see Smackdown follow-up thread for a pic) was also very good. Trolling speed was 2.0-2.4mph on the Depth Raider.
We also caught some fish pulling cranks off the riggers near the bottom.

BFG while we were at the smackdown the question was brought up about mini disks. Is there a chart that says how far back get you so far down. I know on Sunday we were 70 and 90 feet back.

The back of the package for the mini discs says "1 foot of depth per 2 foot of line out.."
Now..having fished with Little Dandy an awful lot over the last three years..I would say those numbers are not correct.
When we run 'em 40' back...Mike says they are in the 10-12' range...80' back is around 18' or so..
To be honest..there are many variables at play when it comes to the discs. One has to remember that when running big boards, the lines closest to the boat are going to be further out of the water than those closer to the board. If you are catching fish off the closer lines, you might want to shorten up the leads..and vice versa.
While fishing with Keith on the Draggin' Flies, we were running the discs off of inline planer boards. When guys would say..."70' back" we would run 'em a bit shorter. Took us a bit to figure that out, but it makes sense, with the line being directly in the water behind the inline board..achieving greater depth.
It's tough to mark good fish in <20fow..as the cone angle is pretty tight at that depth. Mike will cruise until we get a couple good marks and then we'll set 'em out and proceed to put the SMACKDOWN on 'em...

Somewhere I'm pretty sure I have a mini disc chart. I think Mike does too. I have to mow the lawn right now before it rains later. I will look in my boat. I think it is in there. It is not 1 ft. per 2 ft.. It varies by line weight and trolling speed and there is a curve in the chart like all diving baits.

Pretty sure the dive curve for the mini-disks is in Precision Trolling Big Water Edition. Mine's on the boat now, but I'd bet on it. I'd also bet that under most conditions the Precision Trolling data is within 10% or close enough to put you in the game.
Something else on leads, get a tape and measure off 100'. Zero a counter and pull your measured 100', now check your counter. Depending on line diameter and how your reels are filled, you could be in for a surprise.

BFG, Thanks for the info looks like I am going Sat. instead of Sunday, I will let you know how it goes. On a different note the Big Jon Mini Disk are in the Precision Trolling Big water book. The dive curve is not 2 feet back for 1 foot of depth. It depends on the line but it is 60 feet back for 15 feet down with 10lb mono for the 1 3/4 mini disk , the 2 in goes 20 feet down at 60 back According to Mr Romanack

Here it is. Hope it comes out. This is the original chart I got from Big Jon about 10 years ago when I first started running them. 2 mph 10 lb. mono. It was in my boat buried! Who would've thought it would be there? As you can see the dive curve almost completely flattens out after 18 ft. of depth. Also Mike is right about the reels. Even the most expensive line counters can't account for how much line is on the reel changing it's circumference, what lb. test or even how tight it is wrapped on the reel. Also after about 50 ft. back 10 ft difference in how much farther back a lure is makes little difference in how far down. The important thing is if the reel hit a fish at 70 ft. back, regardless of how far back it actually is, it is important to put that counter back at 70 to have the best chance of catching fish that day at that speed with that line weight simply because it just caught a fish at those numbers! It gives you something to work with!
