How was the fishing in Leland? I fish there every year. Early on it can be tough. The best fishng early takes place out at North Manitou, usually on the North side of the island. It's a hike! 12 miles. As August comes in the fishing can get better at the shelf right in front of Leland only a mile or two out. I have a childhood buddy that lives in Traverse City.

The fishing was tough because of the wind. Had one real good day of 12 kings in three hours one evening on the NE corner of North Mainitou. the other two times I got out we really had to work for them. They were catching pretty good numbers of lake trout. I didn't try that program. It is early for good fishing up there but had a great time. Fantastic views and very few boats.

Those views are the best. If you've never been to Leland, you just don't know! They can't be described either! It's funny. We struggle with East winds on Erie thru July then when the west winds finally come, we go to Lake Michigan and wish we had the east winds! It can be frightening out there by the Manitou islands where the water gets deeeeeep!!! I came home one night in 10 - 12 footers but luckily they were west winds and we were going with them!
