Was watching the FLW Kingfish Tour on Fox Sports on Sunday and it was a affirmation of tournament persistence. The winning team literally caught their winning fish while they were pulling lines. Although it's somewaht different to catch one fish then a tournament box of fish, still many times in a tournament you are out there looking for that last fish.

The key is to remain ready and working until the last possible second before you have to be running. Relax on the way to the weigh in and in this case because the fish they caught took some time to bring in they were late to the weigh-in and took a penalty (1# for each minute, 15 min late is a DQ, they were 11 min late) but still won, they would not have won with the 10# fish they had previously, they ended up landing a 32# fish and won by a few pounds and cashed a $70,000 check.

Stay with it! In most of the tournaments Team EO particpates in, being late is a DQ so you have to calculate that into your pull times. Last year first day of the Ludington Tournament we got our last fish required for the day with 5 minutes to go, we fire-drilled everything in and made the weigh-in, talk about adrenaline.

You make an excellent point here Greg. I do agree that the kingfish circuits are different in that teams only need to catch one fish. However, it is even more heartbreaking to box those first 9 or 11 fish and come up short by one.

Two times this past season, my team got bites with 2 minutes or less until my call to pull lines, and both times those fish accounted for the points needed to make it into the top 5 of the event.

I know we all get very tense and sometimes have a feeling of impending doom when those final minutes and seconds tick off the clock at the end of the fishing day, but it is absolutely critical to maintain focus and to keep going.
