Curt, copper is available from fins and feathers 315-963-8403.Also Fish307 has it on their website. Are you going to list the orange and black fly on your site or is it a R+D thing first?

Copper is a "transition metal". As with all metals, the transition elements are both ductile and malleable, and conduct electricity and heat. The interesting thing about transition metals is that their valence electrons, or the electrons they use to combine with other elements, are present in more than one shell. This is the reason why they often exhibit several common oxidation states."

From what little organic and in-organic chemistry I can remember this may mean that the copper is actually releasing ions when it react with the water. Copper may really have some sort of fish attracting ability. Don't know for sure - but hey it was fun trying to figure it out.

Hey Curt , I'd like to try that new color as well . Sound like it would be hot in June for steelhead.

I'm still gathering intel on the copper but I haven't heard of anyone using it with a diver. It would be heavier but also have more surface area which translates to more water resistance. I don't know if it would get deeper or not.

I was planning on either getting another 55L from you or stripping one of my double cores off the ones I have. I think it'd be the perfect reel for copper, especially long copper. My current plan is to segment the copper with braid in between sections so I can run different lengths off boards. That way I can run 100, 200, 300 0r 400+ behing the board. I guess I'll find out how practical that is when I try it for the first time.

Greg
Thanks for the chemistry/physics lesson. Seriously though I used to think that the "magic" properties of copper was hooey. You've opened my mind to the possibility.
