Day in day out it seemed the 7 color just went over and over. If I had to pick 1 of all the core set ups that would be it.

Two 5's and a 7. I've personally never used a 7 though. If I need to get a little deeper on the 5's I use snap weights. On my boat I carry 2 each of 2 colors, 5 colors and 10 colors. Also one copper rig and I'm toying with the idea of getting another one.

3,5,7 for me - 8 would be close - but catch too many steelhead to discount the 3 and 5 so it's left out in the cold.

Something I do on my full cores to have extra options is at the 8 color point I splice in 50' of mono then add the last two colors. That way I can run the same set up at either 8 or 10 with out having to carry and an extra set up.

if you already a 2 and 10 I would add a 4,6,8, but if you are just starting and have no other cores, I would run 3,6,8. And if you wanted to, i would add them all!

If I were you, I would go with 3,5, and 8 colors. Eight color seemed to be real hot last year for kings and steelies. With a couple colors of seperation on the set-ups, it makes it easier to run multiple cores on the planer boards with less tangles.

Have you thought of using those new planing sinkers in front of leadcore or copper? How much weight do you use with snap weights and how much line betw core/copper and weight and board?
