Yeah--it's not that hard. A chainsaw works great. Seriously, it's a little labor-intensive, but not that hard. Bill Seng, who's now passed away, did it to his own fishing boat several years ago, and Capt. Dale Ridley of the "Tamboo" decapitated his a couple of years ago. The toughest part is cutting of the controls and instruments. They cut around the edge of the bridge about 6 in above the underside of the bridge, then removed the instruments and everything else from the top. After everything was removed and sealed off, they made a piece of marine plywood to fit onto the topside. This will be glassed over and painted to match the rest of the boat, leaving a nice looking hardtop about 8in thick. The flybridge was useless to me, since I frequently fish alone, and almost never with more than 2 aboard. The chart-plotter, graph, temp troll, radio, and autopilot are all at the lower helm, so I had to be there anyway. With the ladder gone, I pick up some more usable space in the cockpit. This isn't a cheap fix--by the time Memorial Day rolls around, I'll owe Jeff Seng my first-born male grandchild.
