This thread discusses the Content article: The Tournament Experience

great article on tourney fishing. i would like to tie this in to the article on taking kids fishing. i have been working with two young men (age 14) and showing them the joys of salmon fishing on lake michigan and was wondering if there would be a tournament available that i could enter myself , my son, and his friend into. they are to the point where they can run the back of the boat rather well and i thought that something like this would be a great experience for them and me. we fish out of a 21 ft tracker tundra so weather may be of some concern. any help or advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

You should check the tournament trail events - www.tournamenttrail.net - but I would suggest an event that has a women's and kid's tournament to start with - it's a one day event - there are individual prizes for many of the kid's the fish in their age group and take their largest fish.

I know a bunch of kids from our marina in harborview particpate in the Ludington Offshore.

Welcome to EA, flyin low! I suggest that you check out the local Salmon Unlimited tournaments. Club tournaments are a lot of fun, usually have fewer boats competing (so you have a better chance to win some prizes) and are a little lower key than the big tourneys.

I don't know a lot about tournaments in your area, but Hondacat (Frank) from Calumet Marine is heavily involved in the Northern Indiana tournaments. Send him a PM (private message) or call him for more information.

Good luck!
Tom
