The Muskegon channel and lake are loaded with fish. The front on Friday had them all screwed up and both morning and afternoon trips only yeilded 2 fish each trip. Saturday was a different story. We set lines in 40 fow outside the pack and whacked several and lost several right away. The sun then popped out and the fish got shy. we worked in and out of the mud, and in and out of the channel and finished with 9 good kings, all pretty silver yet. Satuday afternoon trip was a whack fest. We set up shop in the outer arms and pretty much made circles from within 50 yards out the outside arms to about half way between the inner and outter. we had our 12 kings withing 3 hours and lost a half dozen more. While clearing lines we hooked another fish and while we were fighting that one, the 12th fish flipped and flopped his way out of the fishbox, off the swimm deck and into the lake, never to be seen again. Pretty damn comical. So we landed the 13th, which became the new 12th. Pearl #4 and #5 tomics, Cut plug J's in #4 and green glow #4 and #5 did all the damage on Saturday except one on a Glow Tiger Dolphin Nailer and one on a 10" double crush white spinnnie with a Green Horse Fly, but both of those were outside the piers in 40-50 fow in the morning. The fish are here and snapping. Get out there. Oh yeah and please remember Red Right Returning. Nothing F's up the flow of traffic like someone going outbound on the inbound side of the channel.

I was thinking about making a trip up that way as the fishing down here at the Joe was slow this past weekend. The wave forecast doesn't look good for the next few days either. Got a few more days off work and was thinking about making the drive up, before calling it for the year. Looking for info on where to launch, and any other info on the fishing would be great. I would be driving up from Kalamazoo.

Claire, there are many launches on Muskegon lake and the beauty of Muskegon is even in a gale winds you can fish the channel and Muskegon lake this time of year.I saturday afternoon I was never more than 100 yards from the channel entrance. There is a nice dnr ramp at snug harbor on the NW corner of Muskegon lake. It also has a cleaning station. Not posative you can get a 24 in there. The city owns several ramps along the south shore of the lake that may accomidate you. I am pretty sure you can get in the ramp that is next to Great Lakes Marina just across the channle where the lake Express goes in and out. The only cleaning station other than the DNR one at Snug harbor is at Fisherman's Landing on the SE corner of Muskegon Lake just south of the big smoke stack. That is the facility I use for my 25 Carolina Classic. Good ramps and has a cleaning station although when the office closes at 5, so does the cleaning station. As for fishing, pretty much toss out glow plugs in the dark and switch to pearl or variations of it after the sun is up. Throw in a couple green glows, cut plugs or watermelon and you pretty much have it. keep you spread simple to assist in hard corners so you can stay on the fish and dodge boats, especially the ones that enter and exit the channel on the wrong side. I heard that today was a slaughter again as well as Sunday. I will be out Thursday again. Good Luck and feel free to email me or call me for more specifics.

We have used Balcoms Cove launch a few times this summer. They have a curb in the water just before our boat comes off the trailer (23'). Have to jump the curb with the trailer in order to get the boat off. It has bent the fenders on the trailer. Water is a little shallow also. Have to trim up right off the launch. Would recommend Fishermans Landing or the launch just west of Great Lakes Marina. Great Lakes is nice because it is a short ride to the channel. I find it easier to drive a little farther so I fill up the truck rather than to fill up the boat. Makes the fishing trip seem less expensive.

Are the fish still working Muskegon quite well? We were out on Sat AM and had a good number of fish, wondering if they are still here or if they have moved up.
