Port sheldon boaters beware the county sheriff is going to be enforcing the no wake through the pier heads this year. I know some of you like to throttle up at the narrows near the houses between the north and south walls. That is STILL NO WAKE. The are going to have a dedicated boat there i have heard from an officer in holland and at gold coast today.

Thay are also dredging the hump right now so the bigger boats can get out. Docks aer in the water.

Guys in holland have had an ok weekend from what i saw at the launch. wish i could get rid of the d@mn cold so i could get out.

Where is it posted or otherwise listed that this is a No Wake area. I fished PS yesterday and the Port Sheldon Township sign it right @ the entrance to Pigeon Lake - even with end of the pier walls. And, there is the sign @ the docks about No Wake times on Pigeon Lake. I understood no posting meant no. . . NO Wake. Also, see http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10366_37141_37701-38811--,00.html, for the only DNR listing for the area.

Finally, I can't believe the Ottawa County Sheriff Dept. would have or could afford a "dedicated boat" for this small harbor!?!?

I think the Sheriff was probably "encouraged" to put some deputy's there.

The people that live on Pigeon Lake probably donate a lot of money to the Sheriff's re-election fund

I know what you are saying but the kid that works for michelle at Gold Coast recently got a ticket for coming in at high speed, and was warned that the area between the walls is no wake. Which if you think about it the only place that sign is talking about is the lake up to the houses where it starts to narrow and the no wake sign is. That is all it is saying is no wake. Also coming in like you said there is no no wake markers till you get to the narrows. But you are coming into a walled port there (just like ludington holland sagutuck grand haven .....) which i have never seen another port that you can come in under full power unless there is an emergency. So i guess this is where it is steming from. Towards the end of the season someone came blasting around me right into the narrows as they slowed and there were quite a few people pissed about it. Manily the guy on the big tuna tower boat. There was quite the obscenities flying from him towards the other boater. granted this wasn't a fishing boat just a party boat. Towards the end of the season last year, my Dad and I were talking she (the sheriff) was in there every sat and sun about 10 - 11 am. We got checked once coming in. I think the home owners are contributing to the county coffers to have patrols there. They obviously have the money to do it

Now don't shoot the messenger i am just telling you guys what i had heard and am trying to warn you all about the possibilities of tickets.

Howd you do fishing out of PS i was gonna head out there sunday if the weather looks OK I think i have this cold in check. Watch me end up with pneumonia. I finally have th boat ready to go in again. They get the dredging done yet ?

Hey Alex, I thnk Aholoway has a point. Last year I saw the sheriff patrol boat several times at PS, and it wouldn't surprise me if they're stepping up enforcement this year. I think I'm going to slow down and see if anyone else gets ticketed.

aholoway,

I typically go out slow, because you never know what is around the end of the walls. Coming in is another story(~: I always use caution though.

Fishing was slow Thursday morning. . . read NO FISH. I will be back out in the morning to see if it is any better.

Alex

Good to know, thanks thomasa. Are they going to just let the area fill in so boats can't use the ramp? They really need to do something about it.

P.S. Hi Ken(~:

I always did the same thing as you and everyone else slow going out but a little quick coming in. But i will not do it any more. I decided to call the Coast Guard in Holland. It is No Wake between the pier heads and through the narrows. They said this year that it will be enforced more than before and that either the sheriff or thier boat will be in their quite often this summer. They have had a lot of complaints they said.

Thanks for the info on fishing. Hopefully i will be able to get my boat on the water soon.

Aaron
