My son Tom and his buddie Doug took the cantgetenough II out handlining last evening a mile south of the Bluewater bridge on the Mich. side and caught none handling but Doug got 2 eyes chugging a chrome pencil plug. A few silvers also for both of them.

They needed to be North of the bridge up by the lighthouse. The fish are in good right now up there. If the lake is to rough then fish down by Marysville.

The thing I remember most about my few attempts at chugging pencil plugs with my cousin was the wicked current in the river. We got our anchor stuck on bottom and had a hell of a time getting it dislodged. I thought the boat was going to get sucked under. We caught a few nice fish but not any numbers of them.

What is the trick to finding a good chugging spot? Finding a hole or current break?

There are many holes between the shipping channel and shore. You need to anchor about 30 yards above the hole and let your lures back in the hole. The fish sit there and rest but will not turn down a easy meal. There are many places between the Black River in PH to Marysville that hold many fish. Yes the current in strong but the fishing can be crazy. I spent 25 years in PH and fished the St. Clair alot. I can give you a few spots to try next time someone goes.

Thanks Salmonroy,

I'll pass it on to Tommy. His boss goes there and takes his boat so my son fishes next to him in the cantgetenough II. Our river/handlining boat. I've got buddies that have fished in PH but it's one of the few places I haven't tried yet. I'm going to have to try it!!!!

Steve

P.S. I have to put a longer anchor rope in that boat for him. I usually just handline and jig in that boat but in order to chug, it needs anchoring. He did say that he had trouble with anchoring due to the short line. (Homer Simpson time)DOOHHHH!!!

With all the rocks and other stuff on the bottom do not buy a expensive anchor. I would easily go through 2 or 3 a year by not being able to get them out. The deepest you would fish is no more than 25ft deep. Also this time of year you will get more fish drifting crawler harnesses than chugging.
