Sat. 6-14. Ran out to MI/OH/Can line, trolled tword Fermi until wind shifted then headed tword Dertoit Light running parallel to shipping channel. Noon to four landed four eyes all on discs and spoons 70-90 feet back, 20-23 fow, 2-2.2 mph. All four caught on different colors, barbie, pink panties, monkey puke, confusion. Breifly switched to reef runners at 1.7-1.9 mph, no luck. Tried same thing Sunday 9-12 no luck. The closer we got to Detroit Light the more weeds in the water. I guess I have to spring the $40 for Ohio tag.
I am new this year and have learned a ton from this site, Thanks.
When/Where are the perch? I have a bunch of kids and I think they will have more fun pulling perch then trolling for eyes, they tend to get a little fidgety. Thanks again for all the help.

Welcome aboard and thanks for sharing your report!
I'm not a perch expert, most of the guys fish 'eyes until the weeds get real bad, the water too hot, or the 'eyes too far. I'm sure someone will post up soon to provide more help.

A lot of perch fishing takes place in the waters you just trolled! Off Stony point and south of the Detroit light. It's usually good from now 'til October. Anchor and use spreaders. Light action pole. Minnows and just enough sinker weight to find bottom then reel up one foot. I usually go to Lake St. Clair with Katydid a couple of trips a year. I do Lake erie about once every three years but both are good. Southern lake Huron is good too.

welcome aboard....stoney point like 25 FOW is staple spot to try and not tooo far to run.. e-buoy down towards bolles and Toledo Beach is another spot better for perch fishign and not as far to get too... if you dont mind a little boat ride, go to the turnaround buoy and fish aroudn there....ususlaly good action there in the fall....we usually don't get into heavy perch mode until late august-october
i prefer a crappie rig over a spreader in deeper waters, but thats me....i also like just using a sinker and single hook...if i need to fish two poles, those are the two set ups you will find on my rods...
if you use the crappie rig, put the hook on the bottom snap with the sinker...75% of your fish caught will be on that hook!

I've not tried them yet, but I've read very good things about the "Ole Pete's" perch rigs available at Matthew's Bait and Tackle. Ole Pete brand is a staple around the Huron, Vermilion, and Cleveland area. He makes spoons, perch rigs, etc etc and will do custom colors for you if desired.
