Fished Saurday 2-3 miles north of West Sister we pulled in some pretty good sized sheepshead, a few perch, 3 nice walleyes, and a first for me, a nice 5-6# steelhead. The steelhead hit a green bubble gum spoon behind a mini diver. I've fished Lake Erie off and on for years but this was my first steelhead out there. He put on a nice show with 3 jumps about 4' out each time. Anyone else experiencing steelheads this far east?

I have heard of and seen a few steelies this year. We got one around McDonalds I think at the smackdown. Maybe in the next few years there could be a fishery like Peele. That would make for a awsome spring fishery

The water gets too warm on this end to sustain any good numbers of steelhead throughout the warm weather months. I'm guessing what guys are catching are "lost" individuals trying to find their way to the Canadian side near Erieau and Wheatley.

That fishery should be firing up soon...the Reel Naughty boys go over several times a season. Little Dandy has toyed around with making the run...and I would be up for that for sure!

A few years back I was trolling around the Toledo Water Intake just trying to calibrate my autopilot when we caught a nice steelie. Other than that steelie the furthest west I've caught them was just on the west side of Middle Bass.

I also toyed with the idea of running to Wheatley with my boat but when figuring the fuel cost I just couldn't do it.

They are fun to catch.

I may join a buddy and run from Mazuriks over to the Wheatley area in his new 23' sailfish.

When trailering and coming back across the Ambassador Bridge on sunday afternoon's it can be a pain in the butt.

I've averaged a steelie a year for over 30 years and last year had at least 4 and think we lost another. The usual size? 12 - 15 inches. Last year had one over 4 lbs. This year not a one but I think Little Dandy got one this year.

We got one this year just N of the River Raisin channel about half way out along the ditch. Going back to 1990, less than one per year for us, maybe one every 2 or 3 years, mostly up between Stoney Pt & Fermi. Pretty sure all the ones caught aboard our boat came in April or May. I kinda like the thought they are still around and its almost July.

With water clarity improving year after year now, anyone care to speculate on what will happen? I'm betting the steelhead fishing will improve if the water continues to clear.

Reports have anglers getting a few kings out of the Western end of Erie each season, unfortunatly not on my boat. Yet!

Believe it or not, the Maumee river will get steelies very early around the power plant warm water discharge. I watched a guy catch 3 of them in less than an hour. He was on the bank casting a spawn sack. I couldn't believe my eyes.

One guy down there said the steelies wandered in from the Huron River (in Michigan). I guess they stocked them years ago?????? Can anyone confirm this? Do they still stock them near Flatrock area?

this is my first year with a boat but three weeks ago we caught one and i did not know what it was until we got home and looked it up on the net. i was reeling in to change lures (purple worm harness) when he hit and came out of the water four times before we got him in the net. my hands were shaking when i finaly landed him and would give up a limit of eyes to do that again! 22"
