Dropped lines sunday morning in 75 fow straight out of muskegon. NOAA wave report of 1 to 2 footers was a little off. Waves were actually a very choppy 3 to 5. wind was out of the SW. Turned out to be a very slow morning. Picked up 1 small king 51 down on the rigger on mag watermellon in 77 fow, 1 laker on wire dipsy 215 back on 3 in 105 fow, another small laker (only 18")on rigger 90 down in 120 fow on green puke and 2 small kings on 10 colors of core. Fished from 6 am till 1:30 pm. The waves layed down somewhat by around 10 am. we worked all the way out to 300 fow. Every thing had empty bellies. I was wondering, has any one else noticed an increase in laker catch out of muskegon this year? Last year I think I only boated 3 lakers and I am already up to 15 this year.

Good fishing to all!!!!

I'm in the same situation. All of my Salmon are on the small side and I'm catchng a ton of Lakers. This is the same pattern that Lk. Huron went through before it turned to crap.. Hopefully, it's just a fluke and things will normalize soon..

Just the opposite on the West side of Lake Michigan. Over the past few years we are seeing fewer and fewer Lake Trout.
We fish out of Northpoint Marina which is located on the IL/WI statelines. The old Lake Trout capital of Lake Michigan WAS Racine, WI, just 15 miles north of our harbor. Big Lake Trout are an item of the past out of Racine - it was common to catch six trout for a tourney averaging over 15 lbs each. Fish over 15 lbs are now a rarity.
So far this year we have caught only 1 Laker and our King numbers are up, both in numbers and in size. Hope this trend continues.

You were catching small mature food deprived fish in Lake huron, far from what is being caught in lake michigan. you may be catching small fish but they aren't mature fish they are young salmon (they should be smaller) there is so much bait out deep and the weather has been so weird this year with the water not warming up like it has in the past. this has thrown things off a bit. the bigger mature fish are out there, they'll move in closer as we get a little farther into summer when mother nature tells them its time.
