Hi Doug!

Believe it or not the salmon fishing has been a little slow just like the walleye fishing! The typical summer doldrums! The walleye have been in a funk since the start of the mayflies 3 weeks ago. This is typical. They have been caught just stuffed with flies. A lot of guys don't post when the fishing is slow for a lot of reasons. Some guys don't post when they don't do well, others I've noticed don't post at all. I post even when I don't do well and when I do good.

Yesterday (Sunday) there were several EAs out on Lake Erie and for some reasons known only to themselves, so far only Little Dandy has posted. I know I'm too busy trying to fish and do yard work to get online in the summer.

Little Dandy, Bfg, Roamer and myself were in the Little Dandy yesterday and we got 22 eye in just under 4 hours. We would've limited as we were just 2 shy of the Ohio limit but were once again chased off the Lake by the storms. I would look at Little Dandy's posting as he put up our GPS numbers. Good luck this week. We will be out a couple of times also.

Steve

hi steve,

i haven't been out in almost 2 weeks. peaser has tons of yardwork to catch up on and a couple of co-workers i fish with occasionally are tied up with family commitments and housework also. trying hard to get out though. have you ever fished out of a wellcraft 250 coastal? we are going to look at one as soon as we can make arrangements. looks like a nice boat but won't be sure until we get in it. it has an outboard and i really like the room that opens up in the back for fishing.

peaser and i are gonna go salmon fishing in august(20-21) with some co-workers of mine. first time for me and can't wait. i saw some pics of the awesome fish and they look huge. can't wait to catch one!

Hi Doug,

I've always liked the Wellcraft and have heard only good things about them. Bfg didn't seem too fond of them though. Put up a post and see if the EA community has any input. Where are you going Salmon fishing at? I usually do mine from early August to mid Sept. Leland, Frankfort and Manistee. West arm of Traverse bay stays calm when the big lake is rolling.
I do great on spoons off the big dipsys and cannon balls. I catch a few on J plugs and hoochie and flies. Just never did that well on the lead core. Monkey puke, Orange crush, Sister sledge, Glo Yellow tail are some of my hottest spoons. We always get a few and limit quite often. I fish the North end of lake Michigan because I have a childhood buddy that lives in Traverse and I make sure I get him out! I stay with him also and it saves on the lodging costs. Good luck!

Steve

hi steve

going to fish out of ludington that week. two buddies from work will have their boats up there and should be a blast. never done it before so it should be fun to watch and learn. peaser wants to try it when he gets a bigger boat. really looking forward to it.

i have heard good things about the wellcrafts too. hopefully we can get to kzoo to see it soon.

when do you plan on fishing this week and where is good right now?

I know nothing of the newer Wellcrafts, but I do know for sure the older ones (mid 80's-90's) had a lot of issues with transom rot and bad stringers.

Fish are out there if you are willing to run to get to 'em.

I dock at Anchor Point and after returning from my 16 mile run on saturday I noticed walleye being caught just east of the water intake. That is only about 2 to 3 miles out the channel in 19 feet of water. I'm going to try that next trip.

Just got back in town, had some time off so I took the wife up north for a couple of days.

We fished out of Ludington on Wednesday and only took 1 Coho and 1 laker. Caught the Coho on a rigger set 55' down 20 back with a Candy Corn Spoon, and caught the Laker on on lead core setup 10 colors off the planer board on a Green Oil Slick Spoon.

Weather didn't want to cooperate with us for Thursday so didnt make it out.

Dave

Glad to see the wally fishing may be pickin up
