Im thinking about just putting twilly tips on my dipsy rods to run wire. Compaired to a roller rod, will this work good?

snaggg,

glad to have you aboard. I haven't used wire on my boat but have fished other boats with wire and a guy I respect alot and has helped me runs his wire with twilly tips and has for years. The worst thing that can happen is occasional having to replace the eye although he hasn't yet.

Can't say for sure Snaggg as I haven't used twilly tips. I use roller rods for my wire line setups. I think that the abrasiveness of the wire warrants spending the extra cash to get roller rods.

I've run twilly tips on my wire rods for three years now and have had no problems at all. It was easy to remove the tip top on the rods and replace them with the twilly tips. The cost for the tips is about $7.00. A lot cheaper than buying new roller rods and they work.

I have 2 rods that are rollers and 2 that are twilis and if you can afford a decent roller rod get one. If the plan of the day works out I am going to get a couple more rollers and the twilis will end up as my copper rods. The twilis will do the job but a decent roller rod is nice.

Last year I started putting two beads with a machine screw between to put some tension on the wire, especially when in storage. Really helped with curl. See pic. Learned a new knot this year, so I'm losing the crimps. Will see if I can work up a pic or graphic for the new knot.

An old snubber cut into pieces and threaded onto the wire works too.

That’s what I started with, but the spring seems to do a better job and is a more elegant solution.
