Copper wire

Do you have to let out all the copper wire like lead core or can you stop say at 250' ? What type of backer should I use thinking about putting some copper on a OKUMA CN30D?? I see that it comes in 3 differant lengths 300ft and 550ft and 600ft what length would You recomend?? Could any of you that have copper give me your set up as far as rod /reel /backer if any? How are you putting on your swivel / knot or crimps?? Any and all feedback are welcome let's here your hot copper set up THANKS MAGNUM LURE!!!

I'm new to copper this season as well. I wanted my copper rig to approximate the same depth range as a full core, so I only spooled 227' of 30# copper onto my reel (Daiwa SG47LCA). I'm using 40# PowerPro as backing and tied the lines together using the knot below which originally was posted by Capt. Opti on another site.
