Has anyone actually measured the line compared to the line counter on this reel to check the accuracy of the counter? I have a couple of them that I use for Dipsy Divers and put a LOT of Power Pro line (like 300 yards) behind a full core and 50 foot of leader. I used the counter to measure the Power Pro line. 900 feet. Do you all think this is accurate with your past experiences?

Ed I seriously doubt it's accuracy. With the spool starting empty and stopping with enough room for 10 colors of leadcore, you have a lot of variance in the diameter of the spool from the point that it is likely calibrated for. I'd guess that point to be close to a full spool. That's ok though. I don't really care exactly how much backing I have under my core as long as it is enough. With superline I'm sure that you have plenty of backing even though you likely have less than the 300 yards that the counter indicates.

When I want to know "exact" amounts of line, I use a clamp on linecounter that counts the amount of line that passes through it and should be more accurate. Rapala makes the one that I have and there is one by Shakespeare. They may not be within tight tolerances either but they are close enough for me.

One other thing to keep in mind is these line counter reels are calibrated for a given line weight (ie 20lb test) so when using a super line like power pro the line diameter is much smaller than mono which changes the ratio for the counter. Hope this helps.

as for accuracy " NO Way " but as a reference " Great " I use the numbers to reset after a fish, same length/depth every time or a close facsimile thereof. But it does get you close.
