Greg , I have run both , wire roller rods and diver rod with a twilly tip , both work . If you are going to fish wire a lot I would recommend rollers. I have used the cheaper roller rods and I don't like the tips on them , have thought about replacing the tip with a twilly but if I'm removing the tip I will probably replace it with a good hooded swivel Aftco roller tip. Used the Okuma Blue Diamonds recently and they seem like a decent rod for the money , the YAD rod from Capt. Chucks is also a decent rod , probably the best wire rod I have seen is the Shimano Talora roller rod , but very pricey and I would prefer them to be a little longer { 8 1/2 feet} , only ones I have seen are a bit shorter. They probably make a longer one but I havn't seen them yet. Luhr Jenson made a decent roller rod as well . I am thinking of taking an old diver rod that I like and replacing the guides with all rollers and see how it works.

that's too funny ... I was just going ask about length - yeah the Talora wireline rods only come in 7' and 8' I'm almost positive about that. The only long rods they make in that series are the diver rods - obviously without rollers. I'm a Shimano kind of guy - we have a bunch of TDRs which have always performed well for us.
But I will have to look into other rods for those. Do you use a shorter wire rod for your wire divers - I have 10' Brownings for mono divers. Do you fish wire inside or outside of other divers?

Greg , I fish 8 1/2 foot wire diver rods inside as a low diver , set on 1 or 1 1/2 and close to the boat , next is either Power-Pro diver set at a 3 as a high diver or most of the time my high diver is a Power-Pro slide diver set on 3 or 3 1/2 and a ways back . These are 9 1/2 diver rods . Kind of like to think that if a fish is draw in to my spread of riggers or low diver and turns off that they will come accross the slide diver a ways back and jump all over it. Out side of that will be my in-line boards and lead core or inline boards and mono high lines for steelhead. Kind of a tappered V pattern from deep in close to boat to shallower out away from boat. Might be able to get together Thur. night this week or Wed. night of next week. Let me know what works for you , or call me and we can talk on the phone.

I use the 8'6" Yad roller rods from Captain Chuck's. They take knocks from some guys about the "cheap" rollers but I've never experienced any issues with the Yad. I do wish they'd make a longer model so I can run four wire divers. I understand that Okuma is coming out with a 10' Blue Diamond roller this year. I might have to check it out since I refuse to pay over $100 for a rod.

I'm running the 8' Talora roller rods for my wire divers and after a season I rate them as top notch. The 8' rod has no problem clearing my outdown booms which I run straight out to the side. They have the lightweight Aftco roller guides, which help to better balance the rods. I've found other roller rods with all metal guides to be heavy and cumbersome for newbies, so I think the lightweight guides are a plus.
I cannot speak to YAD rods, but have heard from numerous people that they work well. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know where to get Twilly tips reasonable?? I would like to put 2 on my older daiwa 10"6" rods. If not i'll probably use the Okuma 10" roller rods.

I have an 8' talora,a8'6 yad and 2 okumas with twilli's.I will have all rollers for upcoming season. My beefs 8' talora is too short otherwise very nice the yad rod I liked until one of the rollers took a hit somehow and is bent but after using the lightweight aftco's on the talora somehow just dont like it anymore. The twilli rods are ok but rollers are much nicer so the twili's are being shuffled to the copper wire.I have a buddy who is going to switch a heartland dipsey rod over to rollers for me,I am ordering the lightwieght aftco rollers and the hooded swivel tip if I like that setup I will do another just like it.Mudhole.com seems to be the place to order the rollers if anyone has a better souce let me know.
