I have a friend who is in his second year of Walleye ( the other fish) angling. He went to the local bait dealer, boat dealer, bars, etc. He also contacted several tackle manufactuers (sp) rod makers et al. He was able to recieve some monetary assistance from locals, though the large corporations seemed to be more attuned to people that have proven track records and it seemed to him that if you won or placed high enough for several years that they would then come to you. Also if your boat isn't new enough then any boat manufactuers (sp)contingency money would not be paid out ! He had prepared a nice presentation, including photos of the boat, fish and the previous years placement. After two weeks of promotional work he was able to get, several hundred dollars in gas money, all live bait free, any decals needed made free,no rods, reels hats, shirts or the like. I guess what I'm trying to say, is you have to sell yourself!
Best of luck
Bob

Thanks for the reply Bob. I've never been much of a salesman, I'll have to wait till they come to me. I was just curious on how some guys get so many sponsors and abundance of tackle. Good luck on the water this year. Bob

Hey Bob - I know of at least one written resource that discusses getting sponsored - I've never read the book and it is mainly focused on sponsorship for bass fishing. I have heard good things about it though but really can't endorse it.

Greg, a book may be a great place to start. being a pro in any sport /series is in part selling yourself and your sponsors. I wish the best of luck to anyone wanting to turn pro and certainally didn't mean to dissuade muskybob from tuning pro. I was relating a personal experience and wanted him to know it's sort of hard to get started.
sorry for any negativity.
Bob
