Greg,

I got a close look at your trax mounted rod holders mounted to your arch when you were slipped at the GH municipal earlier this year. Did you drill and tap the arch for the mounting screws? Any other tips for this project would be helpful.

Thanks,
Brad

Brad,

Since we have a hollow arch with fiberglass wrapped around aluminum we through bolted the tracks on. We went through our access panels into the arch void and put large backing washers and nuts everywhere we could - which was about 6 out of the 8 moutning points - the others we used self-tapers in the spot we couldn't reach.

The tracks are on there so good that it actually made the arch much more rigid then it was originally.

If you do it and do like we did with the track following the arch angle talk to Jeff Miller from Traxstech to get the reverse mount rodholders - they have the base rotated ninety degrees and a higher mounting bracket so that the rod holders will point towards the stern instead of the way ours are now - facing forward which makes it tougher to get rods out.

We have all the parts we jsut haven't had the time to run out to Chesaning to switch around the baseplates for the new design.

Greg

I recommend long sleeves. I was the lucky individual whose arm fit in the arch so I got to hold on the backing washers and nuts while the track was being bolted on. I had the fiberglass marks on my arms for over a year.

Thanks for the quick reply!

My arch is aluminum only, and the void is less than an inch deep. Plan B on the track mounting whatever that turns out to be. Thanks on the heads up on the taller bracket, reverse mounted, rod holders from Jeff Miller.

you may want to atleast put some through-bolts and cap nut them all the way through the arch. In reality they don't take that much stress unless you run with a net or something in them - but jsut holding rods isn't a ton of stress.

We are right here in Fruitport - so if you want an extra set of eyes just give a shout.
