Attaching Divers to Wire Line

What is a good way to attach the divers to wire line? I started fishing with wire last year, however I am not sure what is the best method for this set up. I use a large swivel attached to the wire line. I lost a couple of rigs late last year and would like to to do my best to avoid that.

I have heard of crimps being used, to attach the swivel, but was wondering how they could be tied together and eliminate the need for crimps, if possible. Is it a standard fisherman's knot or something different that works the best. Thanks!

Scott

Scott,
The simplest and most effective way is to place the swivel on the wire, make a loop, wrap the loop above the swivel around your finger once and feed the swivel and loop end through essencially making an overhand knot and pull tight. Trim your tag end and your good to go! I've never had one fail yet.. (knock on wood!) Hopefully I've described this good enough and possibly someone has some pic's they could post.
Good luck!!

Thanks Bill,
I was thinking as I was typing up the question that it must be really difficult to try to explain this without pictures. I will play around with your description and see how close I get. The description sounds good. Thanks for taking the time to help, like you said maybe someone will have some pictures to add.

Thanks again
Scott

When attaching a wire to a dipsie, I make a loop out of about 2 feet of line. I then feed most of the loop threw the eye of the dipsie where I am attaching it. You should have a circle made of your loop where its already threw the eye of about 6" diameter. Then feed your dipsie threw this hole, pull tight. This kinda chokes the dipsie in place. Take the dipsie and tie 2 overhand knots just up the line from the dipsieand pull these tight. Trim the excess. I know it probably sounds tricky, but its not, and its solid.

I don't use crimps on wire line - I simply use a large sized swivel.

Step 1: Tag end of the wire through the swivle pulling about a foot of extra wire through.

Step 2: Tag end of the wire up the main wireline so it has basically doubled the wire with the swivel hanging on the looped end.

Step 3: Simply tie an overhand knot using the doubled wire and sinch the knot tight

Step 4: Cut the tag end of the wire off.

This should leave a nice loop on the end of the wire giving the swivel plenty of free movement. We ran this knot all last year on three rigs without a single failure. However always check for kinks in the wire and if found cut and retie.

Always store your wire rods tight so no slack or kinks can be develepoed in the line during storage.

Some guys like to place a bead on the wire above the knot prior to tying on the swivel so that the knot does not go into the roller tip. The image is rough but it is a fairly simple knot to do - I was amazed the first time I did it.

Thanks everyone for the help and pictures. I think this information is enough to make me dangerous. I will give it a try this weekend.
