I have a 2001 Honda 9.9 that I use for a kicker. After it has sat for a bit it starts very hard. I have to pull it like 20-30 or more times to get it going. It acts like the choke is not working. This motor has less than 10 hours on it. Any one have any ideas?
Ken.

Have you kept stabil in the gas all the time?
I'm thinking it must have done a bunch of sitting around if it's a 2001 and has 10 hours on it.
Do you always drain the carburator before it sits an extended period?
How does it run after you do get it going?
Is the fuel line/pump bulb in good shape?

2001 THE ROUND SHAPED MOTOR? OR THE SQUARE BOXY ONE?

THE REASON I ASK IS STARTING ONE IS DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER
THE NEW STYLE ROUNDED HOOD ONE You have to turn the throttle all the way down before you pull the cord accelerate after it starts to warm it up

Always drain fuel out of the carbs when not in use on both models

The square boxy style you pull the choke out and set the handle on the choke setting before pulling the cord
The Honda should start one or two pulls if it don’t there is some thing wrong

This information is in the owners manual if you have one. If not stop by a dealer and ask them to explain the normal starting procedure
