legal is one thing but when we go out and the water is cold or less than than 65 deg. there are a bunch of things we should include as standard equipment like a portable 1000 gph bilge pump with 10' of hose attached to it along with 10' of wire with alligator trolling motor type clamps allredy attached
a known good marine radio (cell phone wont do!}
and a gps unit .
a second bilge pump installed in the boat is a good thing but must be a high volume pump and at least 1000gph most auto type pumps are way to small to help if we take in a wave and need to get it out quick
none of this is required by law
but the fun is over when we get wet and the water is cold
or posibly some one get sick hurt or even DEAD

lets hear from you guys what else should be included in the list besides the stuff required by law

A waterproof "Ditch Bag" including:
  • waterproof handheld marine radio
  • waterproof handheld GPS
  • signal mirror
  • pealess whistle
  • flares
  • quick energy food like chocolate


Extra fire estinguishers
A well stocked first aid kit
A float plan left on your vehicle or with someone
Wool blanket (wool insulates even when soaked)
A drift sock/trolling bag to keep your bow into the waves in case of motor failure
