Hey everyone,

I was trolling sat evening without a glitch and went to run in when the engine started missing and I'm unable to get over 3000 rpms. I pulled spark plug wires one at a time and all cylinders are firing and the cap and rotor look good. Went through probably 3 times the fuel I normally would. Any ideas where to start? I put new plugs in this spring but haven't changed wires, cap, or rotor. Anything else? Thanks for your help.

sounds like the shift interupter is activated . this can be caused by the shift cable hanging up streched or just knocked out of adjustment

How difficult is this to adjust? Or is this an instance where I need to install a new shift cable? I know when they put in the new engine a year ago, there were a couple of glitches with the shift interrupter then but everything was adjusted and worked great after that. Thanks for all your help. I sincerely appreciate it.

get a factory sevice manual and take a look if it is some thing you want to tangle with it seems easy to me but i have been doing them for years oh did i say FACTORY service manual , the aftermarket cover every think variety manual will just not do in this case

The shift interrupter isn't the problem. Was messing with it before I went to work last night and the #2 cylinder is dead. I'm on the way now for a cap, rotor and plugs and wires. HOPEFULLY this will solve the problem. Man...I wish I was a little more mechanically inclined!!

It ended up being a blown head gasket w/ 3 cracks in the head. OUCH!! What I don't understand is that I have never overheated it, it was properly winterized, and this was a "new rebuilt" motor a year ago May. 6 weeks after the warranty runs out. Go Figure!! So now I'm in the process of selling my bow and a couple of other trinkets so I can pick up the new head. Priorities, you know!! With any luck I'll be back on the water by this coming weekend.
