I have a 79 9.9 Jonhson Kicker/trolling motor. I use this motor for trolling for salmon. The motor runs great, starts on the first pull. It trolls all day and run smooth as silk. However, When I get home it leaks unburnt oil from the water drain holes. At first I thought it was from the lower end. I have check the lower end grease for a seal leak and the lower end grease is ok. The oil is coming from the water drain holes above the lower end. I have been told to mix the oil at 50 to 1. Is this the right mixture Why is this motor dripping oil? It makes a mess on the floor!

best guess. is you probably have a bad thermostat if the thermostat has some thing stuck in it holding it open the motor wont get hot enough to burn off the oil you are puting in the gas . when the water is real cold even a thermostat wont stop this from hapening thats why in 2008 will be the last year you will be able to buy a carb two stoke . four strok motors wont do such a thing

thermostat is in the cylinder head under the water jacket cover (rite by the spark plugs). you should be able to handle the job if you have a minimal mechanical aptitude . a factory service manual is available at your local johnson or evienrude dealer
