I just wanted to highly reccomend that if you are buying any boat, you get survey.. I was looking at a 1999 proline with 110 hours on it only, and it ended up having a blistered hull.. So it saved me $20k and a weekend to go get it.. I would highly recomend in the Saint Clare shores area, Dennis Biel Marine surveyer. Not only did he stop as soon as he saw that and call me to see if I wanted to continue the survey, but he then took good care of me in not charging me the full price for the survey. Dennis's # is 586-219-7219. Back to boat shopping....

As an FYI, just because a hull has blistering does not mean it has structural or irrepairable damage. The hull on my Proline was found to have blistering when I had it surveyed. I investigated the amount of blistering, received quotes on repair costs, and was able to negotiate a lower price on the boat that offset the cost of repairs. A win-win in my opinion.

If you are concerned about blistering, or have some blistering repaired, your next step should application of a good barrier coat such as VC tar. This will prevent further moisture penetration, and only needs to be applied once. It is EXTREMELY messy stuff to work with (the "tar" part of the name is appropriate). Add a teflon-based anti-fouling coat, and you have a very waterproof, very slippery bottom that can be refreshed in 2-3 hours every 2 years or so.

surveys are all ways a good idea ! blistering in deed can be a big deal if not attended to properly and promptly if caught in its EARLY stages its a easy repair. A GOOD surveyor will know the difference i don't . surveyors should always be asked for references . There are almost as many bad ones out there as good ones . any time there is a chip or scratch in the jel coat it can lead to blistering and delimitation . so keep them jel coats in good repair!
As always thanks for your comments and tacking the time to post!
