What are the pros and cons with a 1990 starcraft islander hardtop? Is there anything special to look out for when purchasing this style boat. It has a 4.3 chevy mercuiser outdrive. Thanks for any help.

Minnow,
I have not owned one, but have seen plenty around. Basically, they are easy to tow and ramp, get decent mileage with a v6 and the 4.3 should provide plenty of power for that hull. Keep and eye on the floor if its wood with vinyl over it. Pay particular attention to where any fasteners go through like for seats.
Down sides would be the same lightness that makes ramping and trailering easy keeps the boat on top of the waves and combinined with a shallow V makes the boat pound more in chop. All that said, if the motor is in decent shape, and the floor or any other wood checks out well, it should make a decent boat for fishing. All boats have their day when they get "blown" off the lake. Actually 3 years ago, a 21 islander went offshore 35 miles with me into lake Superior. So they are certainly capable.

take a good look at the splash rail on the side of the hull where the bottom meets the side . they would crack from flexing about 1/3 back from the bow . this can be fixed by welding the crack outside and adding aditionl support straps inside across the gap created by the splash rail . if it was fixed properly its not a issue , great boats cheap to operate nice boat great ride in 0 to 2' chop can get a little bumpy in any much thing more than that but still plenty sea worthy should run great with the v6 the 4 cylinders where a little underpowered
