Ice-breakin' steel...

Hit a Lake Erie trib yesterday with my good buddy Duckdude for some steelhead action. Found the river slushy and ice covered for the most part, with open sections only in the shallow riffle-areas.

Did the work with the help of DD and his buddy Tom...busted ice just about every place we stopped and finally I connected on a nice hen...

Continued on and got to a spot where we couldn't break the ice...but we could walk on it!! Walked our rigs through that run and Tom landed another one (no pic of that fish)...but as you can see...we had our Big Boy pants on yesterday...

BTW...on the recommendation from Duckdude..I picked up a spool of Siglon SF line (12#) and 6# Carbon Pro Fluoro (Seaguar) and paired with my 10'5 noodle rod...it worked great.

Had a great time out there..and we probably walked a good 2-3 miles over, under, through, across...well, everything.
