Not sure if someone else does this already or not or if I thought of it or heard it somewhere and the idea was just lurking in my subconcious, but here goes. I switched over to double bead chain harnesses a couple years ago with the owner treble hooks for J plugs which adds some $ to the rig. Most of us know when the big nasty, brown, tooth infested kings show up around the river mouths they have a tendancy to roll on the lure/ line while being fought. This has resulted in some break offs over the years. This year I tried a new trick. I like 20 or 30# main lines, but was having that broken too often within a couple feet of the plug. I took 24-40" of 40# or 50# mono and tied my double bead chain harness to one end. On the other I tied on a small 2 way swivel. The two way fits through the body of the plug so I can just attach it to my mainline swivel without modifying the whole reel for 40#. That gives me an increased # test where it matters most, yet is easily and quickly remvoed if I dont want to run plugs anymore. The line is direct tied to the hook harness and the plug can slide up the line a couple feet to get it out of the fish's mouth. For storage, I wrapped them around the swimming noodles. Hook the hooks in the noodle and wrap it up and stick the 2-way directly into the noodle and it will hold. Pretty slick.

Did someone say....BIG NASTY, TOOTHY, BROWN, SLIMY, KINGS?????? How those are words to my ears!!!! How many days till AUG and SEPT???? P..good idea but I feel like it restricts the action on the plug. I have found that my divers do much better around stagging kings with 20lb vs the normal 50lb we run with spinnies. I get more fish around the piers with the 20lb on my main lines and diver leaders. It does not make sense but, it does increase the ## of hits. If you want to prevent the break offs..give them some heat! If you have light drag I feel it increases the slack and then lets them roll more also increases the chance that the kamokazi Lund will cut your line off! Spinn the drag down and hold on is my philosiphy. Oh ya...and run that little F'n Lund over !!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!
