I don't have alot of experience with whole bait other than WingNut turning it into cut bait

You should PM VistaCruzer (Mark) I think he is still affiliated with Fish On! and we have used a bunch of their strips and I'm pretty certain they carry full herring in many different sizes - rated by color.

He has access to the bait by the case load so I'm sure you can get as much as your heart desires.

We've also used the Rhys Davis herring strips but have no idea where to purchase in bulk.

I spent a few years messing with whole bait, and couldnt get it to work for me, but love using strips. I know some people turn their whole bait into stips to save money I believe, but other than that I know nothing. I can give you a contact in WI that may have some of either or know more. That is Steve Seilo 920-465-1681. Otherwise message him threw GL angler. He would be under the user name total tonnage.

What is better Cut bait or Whole? Could stir the same argument of what hook is better Single or Treble on spoons
Both have the there days, and both in the same day will out produce each other depending on conditions.

If I was to give advice to someone starting out or just wanted to try meat..Strips would be my advice.
Strips are pretty easy to deal with and on a whole I would say I run them 60 to 70 % of the time. Your standard bait heads will take a whole herring in Orange and Red size if you smash the head down a little to get them in.

There are also Bait heads made for just running whole that do a nice Job on the larger sizes.
I believe one of the factors why bait is successful is the scent put in water. In the morning or low light condtions I think the cut and brined puts out a little more scent then whole and it helps the fish key in even more on the bait

A typical set up for me would be to start out with strips and once the bite slows after the morning rush to try and Mix in some whole. I believe you might pick up a few more fish. With the sun now up the whole creates a little bigger profile and more realistc look to the fish. That of course is just MHO.

I still help Dave Schmittou move bait on the South End of Lake MI. Steve Seilo would be your contact up in WI. We normally do not sell direct. Unless there is no current source in your area carrying bait. We live and die by the Mom & Pop bait stores and do not want to cut into there business.
With that being said Dave's Company is Fish-On Bait Great Lakes Division. But has no affliation with Fish-On bait other then we do sell some of ther products along with other Herring.
If you have any more questions I will do my best to answer. Either drop me an e-mail or PM. I'm sure there also some other guys on here running bait that can help out to.

Larry, Get some orange label, it will fit in all the rigs I sent and you will do fine.

If i can find it in bulk that would be the way to go. I plan on running it on every trip out this year. After fishing with you "bigwenie" I have come to relize how good it really works. I'm not sure if it was the meat rigs or the bait it itself but you did get alot of fish on the meat rigs last year and now i wanna try it for myself.
