What are a few tactics tricks or tips you can share for targeting big fish over catching smaller fish in good numbers? A few things i do myself are for

salmon: slow down/ get a tail gunner rig or two out be they leadcores, long diver set, meatball rig etc.

Walleyes: Speed up/ switch from live bait to crankbaits

As we did in Ludington last year - put down bigger presentations such as three fly rigs with cut bait to try to keep the smaller fish off.

Run plugs instead of spoons.

Fish your lures deeper, and run larger baits. I sometimes head to deeper water if all I'm getting are smaller fish.

I also would look for deep suspended fish in the 140'
and below. Some of the bigger Kings and Lake Trout will
be in small groups in cold water, the bite will not be fast like the smaller fish but you can get them to bite.
The best I have found is the 10" Blue Chrome Spin Doctor
with a Blue Whale Action Fly. Sometimes Mag spoons.

I would agree , slow down , go with larger baits that you know produce and have confidence in. I have always done well with a 1 pound ball back a long way , deep , almost on the bottom and running a Silver Glo Dodger with a Green Glowfrog Ritchie squid. Seems like it is always good for a couple of my largest fish of the day if you are on the fish. And as Willis said , I like to slide out away from the boat traffic and get over some deep water and search for the suspended hogs chasing bait.

I do run a few things that deep if I am after a few fish. normally I will do all 3 riggers 30' apart then 2
wire divers and rarely a 2 lb drop weight. All with large Spin Doctors or 11" Dodgers typicaly Coyotee or Hot Spots. Hope this helps!!

What length of fly leader would be typical with the large Spin Docs?
