Your other lures with the paint still on them probably haven't caught a fish guys!! I'll sacrifice a few spoons for 15 fish in the cooler. We had 6 steelhead bite a standard stinger lemon ice the other night and all the steel where above 8lbs. The tape was gone half the paint off...and still kept getting bit! So, if you guys want to send me all of your chewed up stingers that don't work because the paints gone, I'll put them in the tournament box for those special lures that only come out tourney time!

I have a few that have never even seen the water that have half the paint gone. Then again I have lots of Raiders, Fishlanders, Pro Kings and Silver Streaks that have taken tons of fish and look almost new.

If you like the blank so much, try Flintstone spoons if you can find them (only sold in a few stores in MI). They have a blank that is almost exactly the same as a Stinger but use a MUCH better paint process.

I think the paint issue has had enough comment so I'll leave that alone.

As far as bending issues keep in mind that any of the thin blanks such as many of the Stinger models, Fuzzy Bear's flutter blank (which is available in about a dozen patterns), Yecks, and others are desinged to be thin - on purpose - not for cost savings.

They are thin and light for a reason - to produce the kind of action that they provide. You have to take this into account when you are buying this type of spoon - regardless of manufacturer - they are going to bend - usually in a fishes mouth - which is a good thing.

It's hard to produce the kind of flutter action that these spoons provide with a standard thickness blank - so choose your weapons wisely - because just buying another blank or manufacturer might not be the answer. And no spoon is ultimately unbendable!

Thanks for the tip Littledandy. You bring up another question though. What brand for the hook upgrade? Treble or single aside, what brand do you upgrade with and do you upgrade with the exact same size hook?

Thanks, Brian

For the smaller walleye spoons (all brands) the VMC conecuts that BFG mentioned are very good. I also really like Gamakatsu EWGs on my 'eye spoons. I have both brands in a plano 3700 box and just grab which ever one floated to the top of the box in the right size first. I try to match the factory hooks for size. I'll also go one size bigger in the lighter hooks. I can't prove it, but I think it improves hookup ratio. Sure seems to more easily snag my fingers when I'm reaching into the spoon box.
