I've got two done already, and I'm wondering if this is a bad idea. From the backing, three colors of lead, 20-30' mono, two colors of lead, 20'leader. This will be used as a SWR or a half core off the board. Same Idea with backing, three colors, mono, seven color, leader, for a seven color or full core on the same reel. On step further, five color, mono, three color, mono, two color, leader. This could be used as a SWR, half core, or full core, of the same reel.

The idea is having 12 different lead combos, with only six rods & reels. Before I go spooling the rest of these, Am I asking for trouble doing this?

Brad,
If you are only running one or possibly two core per side, you should be OK, although you are getting really dang long lines out there. The one issue I had in the past when doing this, is when you run out the first segment, say the 2 color and there are still 3 more colors or whatever on the reel, then that extra core is between the rod and the board. What I saw happening was due to the extra weight, the line would sag and catch every little wave. That would in turn pull the board back and every now and then an insid board would run over top of the mainline to an outside board. that kind of makes a disaster. However, if you typically only run one per side, that is a non-issue. One other potential issue could be when the 2 color is on fire and you want your 3 color in the water also, but its on the same reel. Kind of can't fish them at the same time that way.

I did not see that one coming! I am so glad you shared your knowledge and experience here, so I don't have to learn the hard way. Thank you very much!
