Michigan City is a good place to start...not to mention the Gary Light or Pastrick in Northern Indiana...but the Joe has it's moments as well..but it seems to me that most of the early coho slaughtering takes place in N. Indiana, Illinois, and S. Wisconsin.

Most of the early fishing is done in less than 50fow w/ presentations such as small 00 LJ dodgers and peanut flies, baby Spin Docs and peanut flies, Alderton flashers w/ peanut flies, orange/red spoons, orange/red shallow diving cranks, etc. etc. Riggers, diver, short cores, Jets, Mini-discs, inline boards, etc.

Not much different than a summer walleye trolling program...just with a lot of orange/red mixed in, but don't neglect normal salmon colors like greens and blues as well.

Send a PM to Hondacat on the site...he lives in Calumet and will know what is going on.

Not a problem....

What most guys have difficulty with in the spring is the weather and water clarity...not necessarily the cohos cooperating. Seems once you get on a decent school...they are more than willing to ravage your spread.

Never neglect to run something up high in the water column directly behind the boat (within 50' or so)...as I've seen cohos come right up in the prop wash to slash baits that were being retrieved to be changed...

Mich City is a good place to start. If they are in you will not have to go far. Set up at the piers and troll the beach. Its a lot of fun!
