Nothing new on my end of things Ryan. I stopped at the Comfort Inn the other day and the lady working there was not the Manager, and she was relatively new and knew virtually nothing about a "Fisherman's Special" rate. I'll check back with them at another time soon to confirm, and I'll also check with the Amerihost Inn at the same time.

Comfort Inn has a nice pool that we all took advantage of both evenings last year. Worked out great, even though Bird Dog the Pool Bully got his butt handed to him quite handily by Greg...

Feel free to PM Hal or Little Dandy for info regarding slips and such.

One thing that we did discuss, and it needs to be mentioned again..is that those that slip there should try to make a conscious effort to remember to buy some fuel, ice, groceries, etc. from the marina store...as we want to give back as much as we can to Toledo Beach for hosting our group.

Won't be long now....I'm starting to get just a bit excited...

Ryan, glad to see you may make it for this. Any specific info you're looking for?

Behind the scenes...
It looks like about 10 boats so far. Hopefully we can double that by June. A few of those are tentative right now. A few folks from out of state look like they will be arriving sometime on Thursday. I'm guessing more folks will firm up their plans and post up their intentions as the time gets closer.

Roamer is out of town right now. Last I talked to him, he was making arrangements for the tent, tables, and chairs. I believe this will be set up sometime on Friday at the same location as last year (next to the poolhouse).

We'll be posting up a boat list with available spots and a loose 'schedule' in the not too distant future.

Personally, I have a couple spots available on LD for Friday (thursday too) if anyone wants a ride (No worms on my boat though )

Yeah Ryan...what's up with this "drifting" stuff???

LOL!!!!

It is a fun way to catch 'em...that is for sure. The charter on which I took my Dad and friends out of Port Clinton last year after the Smackdown was a hoot...

Salmon = trolling (although I do like casting small spoons for them in open water too -- fabulous feeling when a good King or Skamania smacks a retrieved lure!)

Walleye = drifting and casting. Heck, there is nothing really hard about reeling in a 20" wally on trolling gear. Now take a medium light or light action spinning outfit with 6 or 8# mono and it is a whole lot more fun -- make that walleye a 28" gator and it really gets fun. Actually with two rods going -- one casting and one bottom bouncer -- half the rods are really trolling.

20 years ago I started an annual fishing trip for a group of us that worked at MSU. Started out as a group of 12 chartering two boats for two days out of Wild Wings in May. We still have our core of 6 that have made it for almost every trip. Of course in Ohio waters almost all of the charters drift and it's a fun way to catch Erie walleye. Outside of a half dozen trips to Erie and/or Sag Bay the rest of my "big water" fishing is trolling for salmon/steelhead. Drifting for eyes just makes for a nice change of pace (to me).

Now if the outing was earlier in the season (say, April) I would be trolling -- for big pig walleye on crankbaits. Have caught a bunch of big ones drifting too, but the PWT has pretty much proven that trolling crankbaits is the way to go early in the year.

I have/will troll for the eyes when the lake flattens out. My 7' Heartlands and SG27LCs do make it fun -- just have to keep remembering how tasty the critters are.

InTheNet will be more than happy to demonstrate how to put a proper smackdown on a few walleye. Can I still use my ringer?

We had a great time last year. This year the wife got called up for the military, so I'll be traveling solo. I gotta see if it works out, but maybe I'll bring my boat this time.

This sounds like a great event. Couldn't make last years event but planning to attend this year. I dock at Anchor Point but may see about a dock at Toledo Beach for the weekend. June is great walleye fishing in the western basin. Might have room for others aboard Lady Bridge.

Two rods per person in MI and OH waters. Min size is 15" in both states. Limit is 5 per day in MI. In OH it will be 6 per day at the time of the Smackdown.

Lady Bridge...

You should be able to reserve a slip without issue. Check with Little Dandy for more information. Last year there were several EA.com boats that occupied transient slips for the weekend.

It's a very nice marina...fully stocked with everything you might need for the trip. Glad to hear you are considering joining us for the weekend.

Same with you Spoonman...looking forward to putting a face with a name..
