Anyone see spawning Carp yet?

It's time to dust off the bowfishing gear and help purge the carp population, one of my favorite things. Trouble is it can be hit or miss and with gas prices...well you know how it is. It's hard to find current carp info without actually going so I'm asking anyone who has noticed splashing carp to pass along the info. I generally stay within an hour of Grand Rapids but perhaps this thread could help others throughout the state. Thanks and tightlines! Carpkabobber

They were starting to flop around in Grand Haven a few days ago - didn't see any yesterday but I'm sure they are still going.

After a couple of days on the big lake we went up to Hardy Dam Pond Monday afternoon. There is some great bowfishing for 30+ pound fish on this piece of the Muskegon River.

I did not see any this trip but I will be sure to let you know if some show up. I am hoping to be back on the water there Thursday.

I saw a post from Southern Ohio on another board where a Dad and his son were able to take a dozen nice carp with their bows last weekend.

The post noted that until last weekend, the fish had not been in the shallows preparing to spawn just yet due to the cold spring (according to him).

He said.."the best is yet to come.."

Thanks for the info. Usually go to Hardy as I did yesterday (5/29), It's just starting to happen, saw a little bit of active spawning and quite a few staging just off of spawning areas. The next couple weeks are going to be fun! Good luck to all.

What do you bowfishermen do with the carp? In the distant past, I sampled some smoked and they weren't bad. Can't imagine what I'd do with a boatload of them though.

Carpkabobber, post some pictures if you get a chance.

They make great fertilizer for the tomatoes.

I've never eaten one. Usually we dig a big hole and bury them. We did a little calling around to see if any rendering plant or pet food company would have a use for them but haven't had any luck. On a good day we will fill a couple of large trash cans with hundreds of pounds. I will post some photos when we get into 'em next week. Tight lines!

Carp seem to be spawning or someway active in the channel of the Grand River by Chinook Pier down to the Wharf and probably beyond under the bridge.

UPDATE: We've been seeing a little action on and off but the water cooled a bit and seemed to put them off. No banner days yet, therefore, no photos. Talked to a guy from Oakland Co and he said they were going down there right now. It's got to happen any minute.
