After a marathon of sorts in the last 5 days, fishing continues to be HOT in Muskegon. Cold water is keeping the bait trapped at the pier heads and the kings are feasting. Typical harbor patrol spreads with limited rods works well. LOTS of boats to deal with. Not for the faint of heart. Many corners that are very very tight, so be prepared.
As for the fishing part of it, starting last Saturday the 9th, a double trip doing 8/9 and 11/25, then first mated for another boat sunday evening and decked 19 in 3 hours, then back at it on Salmonhead on Tuesday decking 12 in an hour and a half for the first trip, 5 kings and two sheepies for 15 hits on the second trip and 6 kings and two sheep out of 12 hits on the third trip. then first mated again on Wednesday morning and decked 13 in 4 hours again.
the north or east winds should continue to keep the fish in there.
Please note, if you are gonna fish harbor patrol, the inbound side of the channel is the red side and the outbound is the green side. That would help immensly in the traffic issues.

Salomonhead, I think we are going to Muskegon in the morning Sat, Whats been hot and are you really just running the harbor. I was in Grand Haven today with my daught on the peir and watched Thunderduck and hitman
and one other charter head straight out to deeper water, far enough that I could not see them. That was at 2-230ish. What do ya think of that? Also would it ok to call you on the radio if your gonna be out?
Thanks.

Just trollin,
That has been the program since last saturday. however, word is today the bite inside died and there was a good bite out deeper. word travels fast and if duck and hitman ran deep for the afternoon trips, that should tell you something. I fished the mud in GH last night and no one was home. so if you go out of GH, go deep. I will be out of Muskegon early with buddies and will try the mud first, then run out if nothing doing.
And yes, the past report I never left the piers other than to turn around outside them. For a short time on Tuesday's evening run I got pushed out due to traffic and found a couple biters in the 40' hole at dark, but other than that it was all inside the piers or just outside on the corner.
As for baits, it changed every trip. plugs in glow, green glow, chrome, pearl and all its varients all worked. Flies were really good at times, especially the Atomic Green glow HorseFly from MagnaDyne. That was the stud Tuesday morning. Seamist has also been pretty good once the sun is up and even in the dark with replacement glow beads. The biggest thing is to stay on the fish, so run a small spread of 2-6 rods with good baits and when they bite, they bite. Good luck out there, it will be a zoo tommorow.

CEME,
Thanks, it turned out pretty well. Always a wonder when you get interviewed and actually don't write anything. I wasn't even sure it would go to print. I thought it was gonna be a side bar somewhere not a main article.

We'll try to keep the zoo keeper close.
Sounds good.
