Fished a very choppy 3 to 6 foot sea with a strong wind out of the north. set lines at 6:45 am & pulled em at 9:00 am with a green passenger. Same program as yesterday. Ended up 4 for 5 but picked up our very first atlantic salmon.

Good fishing to all!

Nice catch. Not to burst your bubble, but I would call that a brown trout not an atlantic salmon. Too many spots below the lateral line, too fat, perfectly square tail and too much color. Also the fins are not lined in black like most atlantics. I wonder how many rays it had on its anal fin? How large were the scales? Although the spots do appear to be a bit "x" shaped like atlantics are famous for. Definately hard to tell. Great fish one way or the other.

that looks like an atlantic to me, with the x's and that head is definately an atlantic head. but also draws very close looks to a brown

i'm on dragginballs almost every trip & this fish was definately an atlantic. to confirm we stopped at shoreline service & were fortunate to have the captain of margie-j on site & he took a look & said definately an atlantic. the x-marks & the size of the scales tipped me off when we landed it & the head did not look like any brown i've caught. the adipose was clipped & we saved the head so we will wait for dnr confirmation but i'm sure it is not a brown. thanks for the interest, it is a unique fish. hoping for a little better conditions this weekend. good fishing

Well, I stand corrected then. I was wondering about the X spots. I have seen so few of them. The only ones I have seen up close were snagged by natives on the St Mary's and they were silver. I had another guy call me on the phone last week and he thought he had one also. Way to go! I would be curious to hear what the dnr has to say, in particular how old it was and were it was planted.
