I am looking at buying a 1988 Proline boat. It is a 25' boat and has a lot of bells and whistles. Seems as though the current owner took pretty good care of it. It is not a saltwater boat, so no worries there.

Has anyone ever encountered problems with these Proline boats? Any assistance is appreciated.

I really like Prolines. As long as it has enough power when loaded with guys and gear to get up on plane without any issue....you'll love it.

They handle the water great...and offer a fantastic fishing platform. My buddy had a 201WA for several years and loved it. Playinhooky had one for a couple years, but it was plagued by being under-powered.

I'll make the standard recommendation, get a professional survey. Cheap heartache insurance.

Just curious, I/O or outboard?

The boat is an I/O with a Chevy 350 Mercruiser. Very well maintained. Has 1400 to 1500 hrs on motor and really runs smooth.

If you run the trim tabs properly you can get it on plane fairly quickly and then trim the bow down. Once that bow is down it spears the waves, really has a nice ride. I was very impressed.

I do need a boat survey! However, I cannot find any numbers in the yellow pages, on craigslist, or from the two marinas I called.

The boat is in the Cleveland area (Lorain, OH).

If anyone out there knows of a company/marina/person that can perform a boat survey, I would really appreciate their contact info.

Peaser,

Contact Steve at Southshore Marine in Huron. He'll for sure be able to recommend a surveyor from that area.

I would not buy it unless you had a survey done for sure. I had a proline and it handled the water pretty well, but mine seemed underpowered once we had a few people in it.

The power (or lack thereof) was the only drawback to this boat. Took a minute or two to get going in 4' waves.

Other than that it needs a lot of elbow grease, but that is cheap! lol

I have a survey scheduled for Friday morning. It will be inspected on the trailer, at the dock, and will be "sea-tested" with a test drive. I will be there to witness what is done. I will post the results Friday night for you guys to review and comment.

Thanks again to all that posted info.
