visualize your spread in the x, y and Z demientions. most people get the x and y, but the Z makes it complete. X is depth, Y is distance from boat and Z is spacial relation to the sides.

disignate one rod as the "chump" rod and change lures on it all day until it hits something. use lures out of the catacombs of the tackle boxes.

Chump Rod. Is that what it is ? I always thought it was the easiest to set. I do that often, it also works to have crew pick one lure each, spoon .fly, etc. at the start and go through these first. Can't believe the smiles when " my lure" catches a fish.

I actually call it the whore rod. it gets used all the time. just thought I'd be nice. One rod has to get used all day. it works too. if it starts hitting, i set it and forget it. then grab another one that might not produce

If what you are doing is not catching fish, do something that you would not normally do. Obviously what you normally do isnt working!

If you notice you are taking fish on turns more than trolling straight ahead, see if it is consistantly on rods to the inside or outside of the turn, usually it is one or the other. This will tell you which way to adjust your trolling speed. If it's the inside then you are trolling too fast, if the outside you are trolling too slow. Sometimes it is just the fact that your lures are changing speed, but it's worth a try to adjust speed by this method.

Always ask questioins. Even old dogs learn new tricks. Most boats catch something. There might be a better way.

I'd rather ask someone with a nice catch, how, rather than where. They will all tell you how.

If your mono line is twisted, pull (or reel) it through a piece of rubber innertube folded over. It will straighten out.

Check your lures constantly. You can have all the baits you want down there, but if you are dragging a small fish or garbage on your bait, you aren't going to catch a monster on that line..

I will be the first to admit, I suck at following this. If you mark a waypoint everytime you get a fish, it makes it a lot easier to guess where you should be fishing if your bites slow down.

Fish your own program , don't fish the radio . Maybe use the radio for info. if things are going bad such as a particular depth or color but stick with your first instinct and fish your program , its normally your best bet. You should have a backup plan but don't base your decissions on the radio chatter.
Have your favorite lures ready and in the water most of the time , the lures you have confidence in will normally catch the most fish. I have one box with my favorite spoons in it , these are the ones that go on first.
Don't leave fish to find fish , I see too many people that are marking fish on their graph leave the area and look for more fish , if the fish are there you need to change you presentation or speed or direction and the fish will normally turn on for you at some point. If you have found fish , you have half the battle won.
Find the bait and you will find the Kings , Kings are eating machines and they are not too far from the bait. I will mark bait on my GPS and fish around the marks and develop a pattern , also sometimes you will see the pods of bait related to the temp. and bottom structure , PAY ATTENTION to your graph and GPS and use the info. to your advantage.
Pay attention to the details , its the little things that can make a big difference sometimes. Not all lures run well together , some like to be run faster and some slower , it important to know which is which and when to run the correct ones.
Have fun , when its not fun anymore its time to quit and find a new hobby.

To add to what Rick said, if boats crowd where your fishing and they shut off, don't be afraid to move and try deeper or shallower, and come back on the fish after the traffic has lifted. When they get a lot of traffic, the fish don't always move deeper.
