I have the pvc covered tube guides on my boat and they work very well. They do have an inner pipe structure made of aluminum.

I have an 18ft river steelhead boat, and the last time Tales2spin Mike and I tried to load in onto the trailer at rainbow bend on the Big M after a couple of days of rain, it was a problem, and I bent over the pipe-roller guides on the trailer. If you always load with no wind and no current, the pipes are fine, but if you ever have to load with a strong crosswind or current, the guides with two supports per side and a 3-4ft bar at the top between the pipes will be worth it!!
